Detailed Itinerary
Arrival in Pangkalan Bun, met and transferred by airport taxi to Kumai boat stage, about 20 minutes drive. Then, board on “Klotok”; is a traditional motorized wooden boat across Kumai bay toward Sekonyer River that will lead you to Rimba Lodge, your accommodation on the edge of Tanjung Putting National Park. Boating upstream and you will notice varied vegetation along the riverside from Nipah/ Mangrove dominating the coastal forest to the evergreen plants of the peat swamp and dry land forest. Tanjung Putting National Park covering an area of more than 415.000 hectares and hosts the world most diverse flora and fauna, including the famous Orangutan. A stop will be made at Tanjung Harapan to arrange travel permit to the National Park. After about 2 hours riding on the Sekonyer we will arrive at Rimba Lodge, is a forest lodge with a group of long tailed macaques living on the trees around its 35 rooms, built on stilts, and all constructed from ironwood. Check-in at the lodge and enjoy afternoon observing the Proboscis Monkeys, being the endemic of Borneo. They usually return to the trees along the riverbank for their night rest.
Boating upstream for about an hour to Pondok Tanggui; is the second rehabilitation center. Walk for about 10 minutes to the ranger post, and continue trekking for approximately 20 minute on the jungle takes you to the feeding platform to see the morning feeding of babies and juveniles Orangutans. Keep a safe distance and listen to your tour guide !! Orangutans somewhat curious about human beings and may want to investigate your pocket or backpack. Get back to the boat to continue travel to Camp Leaky, the historic research station within the Tanjung Putting National Park. Another 2 hours trip to get to the Camp, and you will notice when you entering the black water river, like a mirror its clear water provides a perfect reflection. Lunch will be onboard the boat mooring on the shade of the tree along the riverside. Enjoy seeing the afternoon feeding at the Camp and to get to the feeding needs about 30 minutes trekking in the pristine primary forest. Don’t forget to bring bottled water, due to high humidity can quickly cause dehydration. If you wish, you can also help the feeders to bring milk and fruits for Orangutan to the feeding platform. Then, return to the boat and ride back to the lodge
After breakfast, board on the boat and return to Kumai, and from Kumai directly transfer to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your flight to Semarang.
